e-mail.
[Symposium
Proceedings]
Those who make
a presentation (oral, poster or PC demonstration) and who wish to submit a full
paper for the Symposium Proceedings (to be published by Fishery/ Aquatic GIS
Research Group), should send a full paper to the Convener by 1 October, 2002.
Papers will be peer reviewed by two referees. If the paper is then accepted, it
will be checked by professional editors before formal publication. The
Proceedings will be published by the end of 2003. Guidelines for the full
papers are available on our web site (http://www.esl.co.jp/Sympo/2nd/sympo15_1.htm).
We encourage all the presenters to submit the full papers as the first
Proceedings have been widely circulated in more than 40 countries and have been
rated as a high-standard publication.
[Oral
Presenters]
Those who plan
to use OHP sheets or Power Points, try to use larger & clear fonts, so that all audiences
can understand your presentation more effectively and easily.
IMPORTANT NOTE We will prepare the PC and OHP projectors
(35 mm projector will not be prepared). We use one common PC (DOS/WINDOW
based machine) and we donft accept to bring your own PCs as it will take time
to change another PC in each presentation, which usually disturb the
symposium schedule from the experiences we had in the past. If you use the Power Points or other
computer files for your presentation, please send these files by e-mail in
advance by 31 August TO THE CONVENER at tnishida@affrc.go.jp, BUT DO NOT SEND TO the
Organizerfs e-mail address. Or you can send CD-ROMs by the express mail by 31
August to the Organizer (its postal address is indicated in the top) or bring
files or CD-ROMs to the Secretarial office (Room A71, ARTS BUILDING,
University Sussex) by 9AM, Sept. 3 (Tuesday). Then, we pre-check and
pre-install these files into one common PC to be used in the Oral Sessions. For those to use Macintosh based Power
Points or files, please pre-check if the files can be used and valid for the
WINDOW based PCs. Then, send the files to us. We appreciate your extra works. If you donft provide us computer files in
advance, you can not use PC projectors in your oral presentations. Hence, in
such case, please bring the OHP sheets for your presentations. |
As we have very tight schedule in the Oral Sessions, it is
strongly requested that oral presenters complete their presentation (including questions and
answers) in 20 minutes (15 minutes for the talk and 5 minutes for questions/answers as
standard). We will assign the time keeper who will make notices of the 15
minutes by ringing one bell and 20 minutes by two bells. You must stop at the
second bells. Otherwise the Symposium schedule cannot be
well managed and presenters later in the day will be in trouble. Further, more
detailed discussion of the papers can be conducted outside of the conference
rooms and also for this purpose, we have arrange fairly long coffee/ lunch
breaks.
As 48%
of participants are non-native English speakers, both native and non-native
speakers are kindly requested to speak and discuss clearly and slowly. All of this
provides a challenge for you to get your message across in a succinct and
comprehensible style!
[For
the poster presenters]
We prepare the poster
stands and materials to stick your posters to the stands. The size of the
poster you will prepare (or print) is in the portrait mode (a maximum of 95cm
high by 70cm wide - in the trade they call this A1 size).
Preparation of the poster set-up period is 9AM-3PM
(Sept. 4) or 9AM-3PM (Sept. 5). And the time to dismantle your posters is
5-5:30PM (Sept. 5).
There are two formal Poster Sessions, i.e., 4-5:30PM
(Sept. 4) and 3:30-5PM (Sept. 5). The presenters must stay by the posters and
explain to viewers during these hours.
[For the PC demonstrators]
We will prepare spaces (desks and chairs) and
electrical powers for your PC demonstrations. However, the internet facilities
(such as LAN and telephone lines) are not available. There are two formal Demo
Sessions, i.e., 4-5:30PM (Sept. 4) and 3:30-5PM (Sept. 5). The presenters must
stay and demonstrate your GIS to the visitors and viewers during these hours.
