Final Announcement ( II ) (December 31, 1998)
First International Symposium on GIS in Fishery Sciences
(March 2-4, 1999, Seattle, Washington, USA)
Dear Participants,
Please find the attached final announcement (II) (below). If you can not read this message, let us know. Please carefully read the following THREE IMPORTANT NOTICES, first, before you start to read the final announcement (II).
IMPORTANT NOTICE (1)
For any questions and inquires, please send your message to the Convener at tnishida@enyo.affrc.go.jp . DO NOT SEND ANY E-MAIL to 'Kazumi' at wbs05149@mail.wbs.or.jp , the sender of this mail, by just automatically choosing the return address. This is because of request from 'Kazumi', a home based part-time assistant for this symposium.
IMPORTANT NOTICE (2)
If you decide to cancel your participation in the Symposium, let us know as soon as possible. Please also inform us if you change your registration and presentation information such as the contact points, affiliations, TITLE OF YOUR PAPERS, PRESENTERS, CO-AUTHORS, PRESENTATION METHODS and other records.
IF YOU DECIDE TO CANCEL YOUR PRESENTATION, PLEASE INFORM US. If you don't inform us, we will have great difficulties and inconvenience in properly scheduling and implementing the program of the Symposium.
IMPORTANT NOTICE (3)
FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT:
We received 86 abstracts. Your abstracts are very important because the abstract Booklet is the formal record of the Symposium. Until now, many non-participants in the world have already requested copies of the abstract Booklet because they are quite interested in Symposium (i.e., your papers and progress of fishery GIS), but they can not afford the travel expenses to Seattle for participation, especially those from the developing countries. This abstract Booklet is the only source describing the outline of papers presented in the Symposium. In this sense, we are responsible to include ALL ABSTRACTS in the Booklet for non-participants. Therefore, we strongly and URGENTLY request you to submit the abstracts by JANUARY 7, 1999, one day before the final galley of the Booklet is delivered to the printing company. Your cooperation is important and very much appreciated and will be helpful for non participants, their Agencies and countries.
Thank you for your attention and time.
Tom Nishida (Convener) ( tnishida@enyo.affrc.go.jp )

LANGUAGE
English. For native English speakers, please try to speak English slowly and clearly in presenting your papers including posters, soft/hardware demonstrations and Q&A session because 26% of the participants are non-native English speakers.
PRESENTATION METHODS
(ORAL)
15 minutes is the presentation time including questions and answers. Because there are many papers (presenters), we will strictly keep this 15 minutes pace. Time keepers will give notice presenters using a bell at 10 minutes (one ring), 12 minutes (two rings) and 15 minutes (many rings for warning). At 15 minutes, speakers must stop their presentation. It is suggested that 12 minutes will be used for presentations and 3 minutes for questions and answers, but the time arrangement is flexible for presenters.
(POSTERS)
The easel (panel) type of the poster stand will be prepared. The size of the presentation area is 3 feet by 3 feet (91cm by 91cm). Bring your presentation materials including pins, tapes, and other necessary stationary. We will not provide any stationary. We will prepare tables (6 feet by 8 feet or 183cm x 244cm) next to your posters for demonstrations with a PC or other purposes. Each table will be shared by a few poster presenters.
(SOFT/HARDWARE DEMONSTRATIONS)
We will prepare tables (6 feet by 8 feet or 183cm x 244cm) for soft/ hardware demonstrations. Each table will be shared by a few demonstrators.(Note: the concept of one small desk for each demonstrator, the original plan, is not available, according to the hotel).
(TELEPHONE LINES)
Those who need telephone lines on tables, in order to download from the internet for demonstrations or other purposes, the Hotel will rent the analog line ($50 per day) and ISDN ($200 per day). You need to pay the rental fees and phone bills to the Hotel. If you need the telephone line, let us know. If you don't inform us, we will not prepare the lines. For more details, ask Ann Rist, Sales Manager, DoubleTree Hotel at Phone : 1 (USA) - 206- 439-6110 or FAX: 1(USA)- 206- 901-5902.
DEVICES FOR ORAL PRESENTATION
Following devices will be prepared for each conference room for oral presentations:
(a) Overhead projector
(b) Projector for PC (Color LCD projector S-VGA)
(c) 35 MM projectors (Kodak)
(d) Pointer and screen for projectors(IMPORTANT NOTE)
If you want to use the PC projector, please bring your own PC and test to see if it fits the PC Projector during the preparation & test period in advance of the presentation.
ABSTRACT BOOKLET
One abstract Booklet will be provided at the Reception desk for each participant who registered. An extra copy can be purchased in US $ 8 from FISH GIS RESEARCH GROUP.
PROCEEDINGS
A Proceeding of full papers will be published by an internationally out- standing publisher. A few publishers have already asked us about formal publication. We will select one publisher later. You are encouraged to submit a full paper. Only selected and peer reviewed papers will be published. We will announce details and the styles of the paper later.

Correct telephone number of the reservation department of DoubleTree Hotel is :
1(USA)-206-246-8600,
NOT 1(USA)-206-846-8600.(IMPORTANT NOTE FOR RESERVATIONS)
Please make room reservations after January 12, 1999 because we will complete the contract with Hotel by that date. Those who made reservations by now, please cancel once and make reservations again after January 12. Otherwise you might not able to get the discount rates.

To avoid problems, please follow this instruction.
