(Instruction for abstracts and registration fees)

First International Symposium on Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
in Fishery Sciences (March 2-4, 1999, Seattle, Washington, USA)


Nearly 180 participants from 19 countries (23 States in the USA) have registered for the Symposium. Many interesting and exciting titles have been submitted. This is final announcement (I), which describes the symposium's schedule, abstract submission, and registration fees. Final announcement (II) will be distributed around December 1, 1998, and will describe the program (including keynote speaker and moderators), venue, instructions for presentations (equipment available for presentations, time limit for oral presentations, poster format), hotel information, transportation, proceedings publication, and other matters.

(ABSTRACT)

We will provide a Booklet of the abstracts in the Symposium. Please submit an abstract for both oral and poster presentations (one abstract per paper or presentation) to the Convener at tnishdia@enyo.affrc.go.jp by December 15, 1998. This deadline is strict. If your submission is late, your abstract will not appear in the symposium Booklet. For those who have already submitted the abstract, you may revise and re-submit if you wish.

 

(1) Format

Each abstract will be printed in a sheet of standard A4 paper. The abstract should not exceed 350 words. In the abstract, please specify objectives, methods (including the GIS software name if applicable) and results. One color GIS Map/Figure (size is not larger than 8 cm x 8 cm) can be also submitted (optional). These color Maps/Figures will be attached in the Appendix of the Booklet. An example of the abstract format is specified as follows:

(2) Submission

Abstracts should be submitted by E-mail to the Convener (tnishida@enyo.affrc.go.jp).
The file format can be MS-WORD (version 6.0 or above), WordPerfect (version 5.0 or above), or plain ASCII text.
If one color GIS Map or Figure is submitted, transfer it to a BMP file and attach to the E-mail. If your materials cannot be transmitted by E-mail, transfer them to a diskette and send it by air mail to:

(REGISTRATION FEES)

(1) Standard fees (before the deadline, Dec. 15, 1998)

US $150 for regular participants; US $75 for students.

Credit cards will not be accepted. Registration fees will be used for the administrative matters, expenses for the facilities, printing the abstracts, and publication of the proceedings.

(2) Late registration and walk-in registration fee (after the deadline)

US $200 for regular participants; US $100 for students.

If payment of the registration fee occurs after the December 15 deadline, send the appropriate amount to the Fishery GIS Research Group as above.
For those registering during the symposium (i.e., walk-in registration), please pay the above amount (cash or check) at the reception.
